Born and raised in Rome, New York and an outstanding football, basketball, baseball and track athlete at Rome Free Academy, Don Edick became the most successful football coach ever at New Hartford High School He graduated from Dayton University and spent three years in the Marines.

Baseball coach for 18 seasons starting in 1960, and athletic director 1976-81, Edick produced his most remarkable results as football coach, 1971-76 and 1981-94. A winner of 114 games with 46 losses and 6 ties, he produced four straight section III champions, 7 division champions, 3 undefeated teams and 32 straight league victories. His team was ranked second in New York State in 1989 and fourth in 1988.

His emphasis on character values such as dedication, determination and enthusiasm has not only produced winners, but also has placed him in demand as a motivational speaker. He is as proud of the young people he has coached as much as for the responsible adults that they became, as for their victories.

Don Edick is a worthy successor in the Greater Utica Sports Hall of Fame to Herkimer's Elmer Morgan Sr. and Whitesboro's Allen "Chiz" Frye.

The Greater Utica Sports Hall of Fame was founded in 1990 to honor excellence in all facets of sports throughout the area. As of 2012, nearly 150 men and women have been enshrined.
