A native of Toronto, Canada, Jack Kane came to the Utica area in 1960 to play hockey for the Clinton Comets of the Eastern League.

As a past member of the Whitby Dun/ops, the 1958-59 Senior "A" Allan Cup champions in Canada, it seemed that his tenure with Clinton would not be long. However, he has remained in the area for 37 years, making outstanding contributions to the region, first as a player for the legendary Clinton Comets, and later as a coach and instructor at every level of youth hockey.

The all-time Clinton Comets regular season scoring leader with 333 goals, 639 assists and 972 points, Kane was team captain for eight of his 12 years. He led the team to four Walker Cup championships and seven division titles.

With his linemates Bill Bannerman and Borden Smith, Kane helped form the greatest line ever in the Eastern Hockey League, scoring more goals and points than any other line in the league's 40-year history (1933-1973).

In the off-seasons, Kane worked as a salesman part-time. In 1973, when he hung up his skates, he worked full-time, selling automobiles, insurance, sporting goods and meat products.

For six years, he coached in the Clinton Youth Hockey program. He produced a state champion Squirt team in 1973 that also finished third in the national tournament.

He coached the Clinton Central High School hockey team from 1985 to 1991. In 1988, he earned a first-place finish in Division II and also reached the Section III Finals.

Always anxious to help others, Kane has willingly played in old-timer's benefit games, He also served as an instructor at the Harris-Keon Hockey School and the Colgate University Hockey School.
