Lloyd Walsh was born in Oswego, N.Y. in 1922. His was the "voice" of Colgate University and Utica area high school basketball for over three decades. After graduation from Oswego High School and attendance at Oswego State, he enlisted in the Army in 1942 and was a combat infantryman in the 35th Division, part of General Patton IS 111ird Army.

After the war, Walsh entered Syracuse University and graduated with a degree in radio broadcasting. In 1953, he joined WRUN where, in addition to play-by-play sports, he has worked in sales, administration and special projects.

Walsh swelled with pride as he described outstanding victories by Utica area athletes in the past, including the Notre Dame boys' basketball victory over national power Dematha High of Hyattsville, Maryland in 1974-75, the Notre Dame girls' basketball victories in the public school championship, followed by a "Super 16" win over a team from New York City.

Lloyd Walsh has served the community by working for the United Way and St. Elizabeth Hospital. No stranger to Halls of Fame, he has been honored by SUNY Tech. and the East Utica Optimists Club.

The Greater Utica Sports Hall of Fame was founded in 1990 to honor excellence in all facets of sports throughout the area. As of 2012, nearly 150 men and women have been enshrined.
