A native of Troy, N.Y., Mark Randall achieved All-American recognition as a swimmer at Springfield (Mass.) College prior to his graduation in 1933.

He began his career as a physical education instructor and coach at Holland Patent High School. After eight years there, he left to join the staff at Hamilton College. Two years later, in 1944, he went to Colgate University as physical education instructor and coach of soccer and lacrosse. He established the swimming programs at both Hamilton and Colgate. He retired in 1978.

Randall achieved respect as a swimming pool designer for some 35 installations, including those at Holland Patent Central School, New Hartford Central School, Clinton Central School, Rome Free Academy, Hamilton College and Colgate University.

He earned several prestigious awards through his active involvement in the development of water exercise programs, especially those for senior citizens and the physically challenged. Among his honors is the National One Hundred Heroes Award sponsored by Maxwell House Coffee.

Randall is still productive in retirement by officiating swimming meets and promoting aquative exercise programs.

The Greater Utica Sports Hall of Fame was founded in 1990 to honor excellence in all facets of sports throughout the area. As of 2012, nearly 150 men and women have been enshrined.
