Basketball star Scott Knapp entering Siena's Hall of Fame
Scott Knapp will be formally inducted into the Siena College Athletics Hall of Fame as a member of his alma mater's Class of 2024
Greater Utica Sports Hall of Famer Scott Knapp will be formally inducted into the Siena College Athletics Hall of Fame as a member of his alma mater's Class of 2024 on Feb. 22. Knapp, a 46-year-old Sherrill native, is a former Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School and Siena basketball star who played for the Division I Saints from 1997-98 to 2000-2001. He was inducted into the Greater Utica Sports Hall of Fame in 2018, joining his father, former VVS and Brookfield Central head coach Al Knapp, who won 539 games in 34 seasons. Scott, a sharpshooting guard who scored a school-record 1,897 points and made a then state-record 288 three-pointers before graduating from VVS, was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Year as a Siena freshman. He scored 1,381 points with the Saints, and he remains Siena's all-time leader in three-pointers (293) and free throw percentage (89.1). Scott, a two-time MAAC All-Tournament Team selection, was named second-team All-MAAC in 2001. He ranks ninth in program history with 393 assists and he finished with career averages of 11.6 points and 3.3 assists in 119 games. He averaged 13.6 points per game as a senior and was a 40.4 percent three-point shooter for his career.
