Coach of football (1931 to 1965) basketball (1931 to 1956) and baseball (1931 to 1954) at Whitesboro Central High School, Allen "Chiz" Frye compiled records in football (157-55-12) and basketball (362-121) that many people believe will never be equaled.

Allen Frye was born in 1908 and grew up in Brownville, N.Y. After an outstanding athletic career at Brownville-Glen Park High School he did a postgraduate year at the Manlius School in Syracuse. He was considered one of the best athletes who ever attended there and helped the basketball team lay claim to the national championship. He continued this level of excellence at Cortland Normal School where he led the basketball team to a 15-3 mark.

After graduating from Cortland, Frye came to Whitesboro in 1931 as coach of all three sports. The years from 1948 to 1952 were Whitesboro's greatest years, 79-3 in basketball and 24-1-2 in football. In his career he had only two losing seasons each in basketball and football.

Coach Frye's influence went far beyond mere wins and losses. He loved people and he was respected by his players and their opponents. As a result, he has received many honors, including membership in five other Halls of Fame - at Notre Dame High School, Utica College, Cortland State, Utica Olympics and Whitesboro Alumni.

Allen Frye died in October 1968. In 1973, the Whitesboro High School Athletic Field was dedicated to him.
