As a founding member of the Greater Utica Sports Hall of Fame, Damsky’s induction comes as a pre-modern athlete, modern athlete and sports executive, sports official or sports administrator category. He began his high school basketball career in 1949 at Utica Free Academy. He also was a swimmer, crew member and competed in local tennis tournaments. Damsky won multiple semi-pro basketball titles, beginning with a Columbus, Ohio, team in 1955. Damsky was also member of the Utica Olympics that played in the New York State and National Senior League games.
The Greater Utica Sports Hall of Fame was founded in 1990 to honor excellence in all facets of sports throughout the area. As of 2012, nearly 150 men and women have been enshrined.
